This is such an exciting time of year! I am sure that my love for Autumn came from my mother's love for it. She would/does just thrill at the first signs of Fall--the colors changing and the honking of Canadian Geese in the distance. I bet my Mom developed that love because her mother also had it. What a legacy we are passing on.My children learned quickly that when they ride in the car with me in the Fall they can expect me to comment on and point out every beautiful tree. They know that the next day I will point out the same tree and declare it even more beautiful than the day before. They also learn to "oooh and ahhhh" appropriately. If you know Ryan, having an enthusiastic voice is quite a struggle! To keep his Mom happy though, he is beginning to master the sound effects that go with Fall. ;)
I remember Bently telling me when he was at football practice one time in High School, that he heard some birds honking overhead and made the comment that they were Canadian geese. Whoever he was talking to was SO impressed that he would know such a thing. He just kind of smiled and said "well, my Mom is Canadian, and she gets really excited about the geese."
It's true...at the faintest sound of geese honking I run out on our deck and crane my neck in hopes of seeing them. Then, I usually go in the house and phone my Mom to tell her about it. :)
When Bently was in Middle School he had an assignment to write a poem about Fall. Well, let's just say that I got into it and came up with this poem---

AUTUMNS IN THE AIR
Leaves are falling, birds are calling,
Leaves are falling, birds are calling,
Autumns in the air!
Wind is blowing, 'twill soon be snowing-
Autumns in the air!
We'll rake those leave while birds fly south,
And with their parting flair-
They'll leave a message for us all,
Autumns in the air!
Well, that's it for my poetic talent, folks ha By-the-way, Bently got an excellent grade on 'his' poem ;)

I got the love for fall leaves gene too! The trees are starting to turn in the valley here and I love it :)
Even Maggie knows to do all that fall stuff. She even walks through the crunchy leaves at school just to tell me.
I laugh everytime I think of this story.
While I was still at UVSC, I was having dinner at aunt Betty's & we heard the geese, so we rushed outside but there was no sign of them. Disappointed we went back into the living room. A few minutes later we ran outside again with the same luck. Upon returning to our chairs we realized it was a nature CD playing.
How funny is that.
ha ha ha Aunt Karen, funny story!
I have a love for fall too but I'm not as verbal about it... but it sure is pretty when the trees on the mountains start turning!
I am so very impressed with your poetic skills!! I had no idea - I know who to come to if I ever need help!
