Paint The Town--Eagle Scout Project June 2010

This is the second year that our Branch has participated in the "Paint the Town" community service project. Not sure why I have ended up in charge of our group both times, but I have.

It was wonderful to be able to work with another church this year, and get to know them.
Giving a few instructions to part of the work crew.
Along with their regular group of about 8 people that had been helping, New Community Church showed up with about 15-20 boyscouts Saturday morning. It was overwhelming trying to make sure everyone had jobs to do. Keeping workers painting the right color where it needed to be painted, being sure people weren't painting where the paint was still wet, constantly reminding workers to be sure the brushes & rollers got rinsed out after using them instead of just laying them down somewhere.... it was crazy!!

I'm ready to hand the role of team leader over to
someone else next year!!
So much scraping to be done!!!
Mary Kate missed seeing the last little step,
and decided to give the porch a paintjob
all at once. The nearly full gallon of paint splashed all over...
even in her mouth. :( yuck! What some people will
do for a laugh, eh? ha

Ryan took on the challenge of organizing groups of people to deliver ice, water and food to all 9 of the work sites each day for his Eagle Scout project.

The write-up about Ryan's Eagle project &
Paint the Town in the newspaper

Picking up meals from one of the businesses
who donated lunches to the worksites

YAY...pizza delivery time
Amy helping unload water
Loading up and delivering meals
Work crew gathered to deliver water & ice first thing in the morning
Ryan did a great job organizing everyone!!
Several of the men from our Branch worked very hard to build
the homeowner new front porch railings.

The new railings turned out so nice! We kind of quietly
joked that they are likely stonger than the whole house. haha
Ms. Ware was so proud of the her freshly painted house
and new front porch railings!!

*Just for the record...the homeowners choose their own paint color combinations...not us!
Ms. Ware said she didn't want to have a house that looked like everyone elses...she wanted to stand out--I think she accomplished that! ha
