Yesterday we bought Amy a "new" twin size bed from a friend who is moving back to Korea. They just bought it 6 months ago, so it's just like new. We have had the bed Amy has been sleeping on since Natalie & Jordan used it when they were younger--just a few years, eh? As you can imagine, it is getting quite soft. I remember putting books under my back when I was a kid because my mattress was so soft, and I didn't like it.We thought Amy would be excited to have a new bed...NOT So!
She had a huge melt down and cried and cried. "I want my old bed back, please, please! I won't be able to sleep on that new bed, it's not soft and comfortable like my bed. It hurts my legs when I try to get up on it....PLEASE....."
It really was quite sad. I felt bad about it because she was with me when I was looking at the bed. She lay down on it and said she didn't want a new bed...but I thought I knew better, & secretly bought it anyway. We even had Ryan take her for a walk around the block while we moved the new mattress into her room and changed the sheets to make it look just like her old bed. Silly me for thinking she would even begin to be tricked by that. She knew it the moment she walked in her room!
Arrrg...what do we do? Do we give in and put her old bed back in her room and the new bed in the basement? That's crazy...isn't it? She cried and was genuinely sooo upset. To compromise we finally ended up putting her old mattress on top of the new one.
She is as happy as can be. I think we'll read the 'Princess and the Pea' for bedtime story tonight!

"Isn't this better Mom ,you don't have to bend over as far!"

The mattresses that Jordan and I slept on were Bently's before they were ours, so they're probably 23 years old. Yep, time for a new one. But I understand being attached to your bed. Remember how I did NOT want to give up my bed when you switched Jordan and I to the same room?
too funny!
That is funny! I LOVE that book...one of my favorites. Amy is getting so old!
What a cute story....That's great you found a way to use the old and the new bed. I bet she will want the new one in a year or two. Please keep sending me your updates. I love to stay in touch with you.
The same thing happened with David & Wilson. Marty bought them bunk beds & they hate them.
Cute walls.
