Grand Prize Science Fair Winner!

Ryan competed in the district science fair today. On the way to Carrollton he was busy playing on his computer. I kept trying to talk to him about his project, posing hypothetical questions that the judges might ask during his interview part of the competition. Ryan is a pretty low key kind of guy, & really needs some practice with getting enthusiasm in his voice when he communicates. He said that he was sure he wouldn't be going on to State, so he really wasn't worried about it. At the end of a long day when the winners were being announced, they called "Ryan West" FIRST PLACE -Physics, Junior Division! Hard to believe, but I didn't even have the camera ready. We were both so surprised! Near the end of the awards ceremony it was announced that he was the recipient of a Grand Prize "Special monetary Award" for having the top project in the Junior Division. There were 4 monetary awards given, I beleive the other 3 were to student's in the Senior (High School) Division. One other student received a subscription to "Scientific American" magazine. Ryan won that award last year and has thoroughly enjoyed reading that magazine all year. He wasn't too sad to get the $$ award this year though. ha
You'll have to read Natalie's blog write up about Ryan. She's so silly.

............Ok, it has been a week since Ryan won the science fair. I didn't get a picture of him alone WITH his 1st place ribbon next to his exhibit, & I have been waiting to post this until I took one. Well, I give up. Just imagine it :) I'll post a picture of him talking to one of the judges. On -to -STATE he goes. Wouldn't you know that the State competition falls right in the middle of his Spring break, April 2-5. We had planned to go to Canada to visit Grandma & Grandpa Wilson then, but I guess we'll shift that til the end of May when Ryan and Amy get out of school. We're proud of his hard work!
