8th Grade Graduation

Today marked the end of an era for us. Ryan graduated from the 8th grade at West Side Magnet School. We have had a child at that school ever since Bently went there in 3rd grade!! So that makes us the longest standing West Side parents. I think WE should have gotten an award today! ;) West Side became a Magnet school when Natalie was in 5th grade. You had to have your name drawn in a lottery to be accepted. Both Jordan and Ryan were able to go there from 3rd thru 8th grades. Natalie started there in 3rd grade and then went back for Middle school grades 6-8. Anyway, we have seen a lot of changes in the school over the years, but overall it has been a wonderful place for our children to learn, grow and be nurtured. Both Ryan and Jordan played violin in the strings program from the beginning. Natalie learned to play the flute in band. All of the kids had some great teachers along the way (some not so favorite too-ha)
Ryan was a flag bearer today at the beginning of the processional because he is the only Boy Scout in his grade. (that's kind of sad, eh?). As the awards were being handed out and the certificates were given we were very proud to hear them announce that Ryan West was Co-Valedictorian with Kathryn Sellman for the Class of 2008. They both had an average of 98.75 GPA! Yep, you guessed it-- we're pretty proud of Ryan! :)
Ya, this is the kid that exempt all his finals, but thought he'd go and take a few just for "the fun and experience". Who does that?????? --Ryan!

Congrats, Ryan! I be we really are the family that has gone there the longest, consistently. Oh, and I started in 1st grade, not 3rd.
Bently: 3rd
Natalie: 1-3, 6-8
Jordan: 1-8
Ryan: 3-8
I guess you'll have a 3 year break before Amy can go there.

That's interesting. I think Marty wins for our school. So far it's been 22 years & he still has 2 not in school...poor guy, that's a lot of Christmas concerts.
